Has Me Too Gone Too Far? Well we’re about to go farther.

Quite a bit as of late, I’ve been hearing whining — er, excuse me, observations — that the Me Too movement has gone too far. Really? Well let’s just take a look at the events of the past few weeks.

Just last night, a child rapist won his country’s equivalent of the Oscar for Best Director. He was showered with acclaim; women who gathered to protest him were showered with tear gas.

Earlier this week, another film director — one facing about 80 accusations of sexual assault and misconduct — was found guilty of two sex assault offenses and may be facing about 5–25 years in jail. As much as I honor and celebrate the brave women who have finally put this vile pig behind bars, they deserve so much more.

A month ago, a celebrity athlete who faced detailed, horrific rape accusations (WITH forensic evidence attached) died in a helicopter crash. Now let me hasten to add here — any traumatic event that claims the lives of children and families is an unspeakable tragedy — but it does not erase history. How are survivors supposed to feel when they see celebrity feminist activists exalting this man as a god, an idol, just about the best person who ever lived? And when anyone who dares to even mention the incident is bullied and threatened into silence — just like the alleged victim.

And the individual sitting in the White House faces at least 20 detailed accusations of sexual assault and misconduct.

Well, then. All things considered, isn’t this a pretty damned grim way to kick off Women’s History Month? Not to mention the centennial celebration of the year that the women of this nation finally earned the basic human right to vote? Much like our suffragette sisters, we must move forward and keep up the good fight. Because as these alarming, disturbing events of recent days, weeks, months, and years tell us, the battle is far from won.

Persist. Resist. Prevail.
